Commodore Up[date 21 -June
AGM Anthony has had to make a two week unexpected trip to the UK so has asked me to send a reminder for the AGM on 30 June RNZYS at 7.00 pm. Remember that its great to turn up and help us with the forthcoming year.
We have a strong and enthusiastic committee but there are three position available this year at the AGM to think about
Club Secretary. Anthony McBride has indicated he would be very happy for someone to take on the role of Club Secretary. This is a great position , at the hub of contact with members and whats going and is important in the smooth running of the club. Anthony has done a number of years and done so really well, but keen now to have someone step up and take over from him. There are regular monthly committee meetings, some administrative work , e mails collecting mail and being an important point of contact. Please let us know if you would be interested.
Race Secretary. Also as race secretary, its a bit on being Commodore as well so this position is also available having done it for the last two years. There is a race committee so its a role with great support, but there is a bit to do to put the programmes together and keep an eye on things and to represent the competitors at various level. Lots of fun organising and participating in the race programme, liasing with RNZYS race team other clubs and organisers, and running some of our own events.
Vice commodore. This position remains unfilled since last year.
Let us know otherwise see you all there.
Next RNZYS race on Saturday. Series is going well. Remember SIMRAD series starts 16 July. This is the classic two handed winter series. ( Exodus there for sure, with new paint job). See the SSANZ website.
Meantime a special mention to Sara and Josh Tucker for organising the superb day out with the RNZYS Youth programme two Sundays ago. Awesome initiative and by all accounts the youth sailors all really enjoyed it. Great conditions, some excellent footage and really good to get out there and get more people out there. Apparently lots of crew now available.
Finally well done to Team Vodaphone sailing, Nitro and Flying Cloud for finishing the race to Musket Cove. Simon now has the multihull record of 103 hours 38 minutes, which we are sure he would like to beat another time,. Also a nice handicap win to Steve Arms and his crew on Nitro and third place to Julian Nichols and his team on Flying Cloud. Nest years pacific race is to New Caledonia with RAYC. Who’s keen?
Ps greatly inspired when I recently read in Seahorse that the legendary multihull sailor Mike Birch is just about to head off on a two handed transatlantic race with his mate on an Orma 60, having just turned 80. Beautiful.
